Top 100 Greenhouse Grower Dan Schantz Greenhouses Set to Shut Down

Dan Schantz Greenhouses, which ranked #49 on Greenhouse Grower’s 2023 Top 100 Growers list, is shutting down. On Thursday Nov. 2, Chief Financial Officer Michael S. Bearish told Greenhouse Grower that “After over 60 years of operations, the partners of Dan Schantz companies will cease operations at the end of 2023. We will continue to communicate as we work through the process of winding down the business and selling the companies.”

According to an article on WFMZ.com, Dan Schantz Farm & Greenhouses is drawing a lot of interest from potential buyers, says Managing Partner Patrick Flanley. Flanley spoke after the State of Pennsylvania put out a notice of 120 potential job cuts in December at the business. Flanley said the business is required by law to file the so-called WARN Notice, but he expects jobs to remain after a sale. Potential buyers are looking to continue the operation as a greenhouse business, Flanley said. The business remains open during the sale process.
