What’s Your Green Career Story? Here’s Mine
Seed Your Future’s Green Career Week has come and gone, but as the organization launches its year-end campaign to equip teachers with career-focused horticulture resources, it’s a reminder that there’s never a bad time to tell your story.
As the editor of Greenhouse Grower, here’s my story: Unlike many others in this industry, my background is not in plants and flowers, but in writing and editing. My communications degree from John Carroll University led me to a career in B-to-B media. I joined Meister Media Worldwide 25 years ago, and spent roughly the first 15 of those years in the fruit market with American Fruit Grower magazine. In 2015, I shifted over to the garden retail world for about a year, before joining the team at Greenhouse Grower.
Since then, I’ve focused on the shift from print-exclusive content to information at your fingertips from a seemingly endless range of platforms. Like others in the B-to-B world who have covered multiple industries, I had to quickly learn the ins and out of greenhouse technology, plant varieties, and much more. Thanks to the great people who make up this industry, I now find myself fully emerged in the world of greenhouses and floriculture. Our front patio stuffed with plants can attest to this, as can my wife, who must be proud I’m willing to eat a vegetable or two.
My point: the team at Seed Your Future often highlights the wide range of careers in the green industry. Writing is one of them, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
