Golden State Growers Have Two New Pest Management Tools

OHP, Inc.’s Fuerte Herbicide has been granted registration by the state of California and is now available through authorized OHP distributors in the Golden State.

Fuerte offers nursery growers a pre-emergent combination granular product that helps control broadleaf and grassy weeds in field, container, and landscape ornamentals. The two active ingredients – flumioxazin and prodiamine – are widely known and used by nursery growers throughout the U.S. Fuerte marks the first combination of flumioxazin and prodiamine.

Fuerte provides residual weed control of many common and difficult-to-control weeds such as bittercress, spurge, crabgrass, groundsel, chickweed, henbit, horseweed (marestail), and other key weeds on trees, shrubs, conifers, and landscape ornamentals without harming desirable plant material.

“The dual active ingredients in Fuerte are natural partners that have a proven track record for excellent weed control and overall plant tolerance,” says Sam Drahn, OHP Technical Manager for Herbicides. “Fuerte offers the strength needed for weed control in challenging conditions.”

Formulated on an engineered granule, Fuerte produces virtually no dust and low odor, resulting in improved worker safety and ease of application. The engineered granule allows for even application.

Theia Fungicide Receives State Registration in California

AgBiome, Inc. announced that Theia fungicide has now been approved by state regulators in California for use on specialty crops. Theia fungicide is the second proprietary solution from AgBiome approved in the state that provides robust, broad-spectrum protection against a variety of soilborne and foliar diseases in high-value fruits and vegetables.

“California growers continue to look for effective and sustainable solutions that protect their crops from detrimental diseases,” says Adam Burnhams, AgBiome Chief Commercial Officer. “Theia fungicide’s approval in California gives growers a new tool that offers excellent control of a variety of diseases such as powdery mildew and fusarium.”

Theia fungicide protects crops through multiple modes of action by blocking fungal and bacterial pathogens and activating crops’ natural defenses. The biofungicide contains the active ingredient Bacillus subtilis strain AFS032321. Theia fungicide received EPA approval in June of 2022 and is registered in 49 states.

Theia fungicide is a product of AgBiome’s in-house GENESIS discovery platform, with the original microbe discovery, sequencing, and product development all being led by AgBiome’s team. Theia fungicide follows Howler fungicide, AgBiome’s first biofungicide registered for use across the U.S.

“Our goal has always been to create effective crop protection products,” says Dr. Brooke Bissinger, Theia Fungicide Product Manager for AgBiome. “We are excited to have Theia fungicide available to support growers in California as they deliver high-quality fruits and vegetables across the world.”
