Heliospectra Releases Two Lighting Guides for U.S. and Canada

Heliospectra, a world leader in intelligent lighting technology for greenhouse and controlled plant growth environments, has released two new guides on grower energy-savings, incentives, and rebates for both the U.S. and Canada.

The guides go over how much the average greenhouse operation spends on utilities and where growers can find savings in the year 2021.Heliospectra has found that on average, lighting alone can take up to 38% of an operation’s utility bill. This makes lighting the second most expensive item only to HVAC and dehumidification systems in utility expenses.

Using this data, Heliospectra found that implementing LED systems can boost savings in the long term, especially as many states are requiring more energy-efficient LEDs to be used.

“LEDs are often seen as the more expensive option due to the initial investment; however, if you take rebates into account, there is a potential return on investment in just one year,” says Scott Thornton, General Manager at Heliospectra. “As a result, we work closely with our growers to provide them with all the necessary information they need to unlock all the rebates and energy savings available in their state or province.”
