Learning Opportunity: Identifying Root Diseases in Flowers and Foliage

Due to the wide variety of seeding sites and habitats for floriculture crops, these plants can encounter a similarly large array of soil-centric diseases, including fungal and oomycete root rots. Therefore, it’s crucial to properly plan for the proliferation of such diseases.

American Floral Endowment’s upcoming webinar on May 21, 2024, as part of its wider and ongoing Grow Pro series, will cover this very issue, including how to identify root diseases on plants and ways to manage the aftermath of a root rot infection. Covered topics during the webinar include:

  • Up-to-date info on the identification of root pathogens
  • Management of root diseases (biological, chemical, and cultural controls)

The featured speaker for “Identification and Management of Root Diseases in Floriculture Crops” is Dr. Francesca Hand, Professor of Ornamental Pathology at Ohio State University (OSU). Hand was previously an Associate and Assistant Professor at OSU and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at UC Davis after receiving her Ph.D. at the University of Florence in Italy.

You can register for the webinar directly through Zoom or by visiting the Grow Pro Webinar Series page on the AFE website, where information on future webinars in the series can be found. Recordings of all past Grow Pro webinars can also be found on the AFE’s YouTube channel.
