2014 Field Trials Results: Reiman Gardens, Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa)

Reiman Gardens trialed approximately 250 entries this year. Its in-house trials included mostly annuals supplied via seed or vegetative materials with some vegetables included. All-America Selection’s vegetable were also trialed, and 12 new roses from the American Garden Rose Selections were added to the three-year program.

Trial Manager Jessie Liebenguth says this summer was unseasonably cool and rainy. Temperatures averaged five to 10 degrees cooler than average. She says the weather allowed some of the less heat-tolerant trials to show longer, but some of those plants that need the heat just didn’t perform as well (like echinacea).
