2018 Southeast Floriculture Field Trials: Louisiana State University

The Louisiana State University AgCenter’s Hammond Research Station Ornamental Plant Trial Program, located in Hammond, LA, presents a unique opportunity to trial plants in extreme climate conditions, with extreme heat, year-round high humidity, more than 60 inches of precipitation annually, and intermittent periods of drought.

This year also brought extreme prolonged freezes in December and January with frosts as late as mid-March. The Hammond Trials also provide a unique landscape-oriented trial setting, which allows ornamental plants to be trialed in the same manor they will be used in the landscape.
