LaRue also wrote for Greenhouse Grower, as well as Nursery Retailer. He owned LaRue Marketing Consultants, which specialized in the green industry.

LaRue was a respected marketing consultant in the green industry for more than 60 years and a longtime consultant to the Dutch Flower Bulb Industry. He was also one of the originators of the mantra and marketing promotion “Fall is for Planting” during the 1970s and 80s. The campaign was very successful and helped pave the way for increased fall sales.

“Bob LaRue was indeed a great friend to the Dutch Bulb Industry,” says Frans Roozen of the International Flower Bulb Center. “Over the years, as a consultant and advisor, Bob traveled across North America, visiting retailers and sharing his thoughts and observations on the best ways to sell flower bulbs. He was also a good companion and a warm and caring personality.
