Aphi-Mix System from Biobest

Biobest recently introduced its Aphi-Mix system targeting four major greenhouse aphid species in its product line. Populations of aphids can establish very quickly as they give birth to live young. Parasitic wasps are excellent in searching out the aphids in the greenhouse, but are very specific which aphid species they parasitize and control. Aphi-Mix system has a mix of four different wasps to cover the four major aphid species that are often found in greenhouse crops. The wasps are Aphidius colemani, Aphidius matricariae, Aphidius ervi and Aphelinus abdominalis. Aphi-Mix is available in bottles of 750 or 1500 pupae.

Aphid Guard from IPM Labs

Aphid banker plants produce a constant supply of aphids, which in turn support continuous reproduction of aphid parasites and the aphid midge. Greenhouse growers benefit by having a reproducing natural enemy population in the greenhouse that can find and attack pest aphids on the crop as soon as they appear. It also reduces their costs for regular shipments of natural enemies via overnight freight. Aphid Guard consists of densely seeded young barley plants infested with the bird cherry-oat aphid, Rhopalosiphon padi. These aphids do not attack broad-leaved plants.

Limonica (Amblydromalus limonicus) from Koppert

This super-aggressive predatory mite has already had a significant impact on biocontrol. First released in 2012, it’s the only predatory mite capable of consuming all larval stages of Western flower thrips, as well as the eggs and all larval stages of whitefly. Its value for IPM is further increased by its ability to feed and reproduce in greenhouse temperatures as low as 55°F.
