Learn Tips On Greenhouse Management During Growers Supply’s Fall Workshops

Growers Supply WorkshopGrowers Supply will be hosting its next two controlled environment agriculture (CEA) Hands-On Workshops Sept. 13-15 at the company’s CEA Learning Center West in Dyersville, IA, and Oct. 12-14 at the CEA Learning Center East in South Windsor, CT.

Both workshops will offer participants an education-filled, three-day schedule where Growers Supply experts and industry specialists educate attendees on the latest trends and innovations in controlled-environment agriculture, such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and microgreen production.

The workshops’ curriculum begins with the basics of controlled environment agriculture, and then shifts toward how attendees can integrate or improve CEA techniques in their operation. Over the three-day workshop, attendees will receive hands-on demonstrations and professional insight on sizing a greenhouse, nutrient management, integrated pest management techniques, the benefits of specific hydroponic systems, producing microgreens, the symbiotic relationship between plants and fish, and much more.

The workshops cost $995 for the full three days, which includes a three-day hotel stay, lunch each day, and a comprehensive course workbook. Upon completion of the workshop, each attendee will receive a $995 product credit that can be used toward the purchase of any controlled environment agriculture product.

Vertical Farming Looks to Go Mainstream

The University of the District of Columbia is the nation’s only urban land-grant university, so it was a particularly appropriate setting for the Association of Vertical Farming (AVF) to host the AVF Summit 2017 on September 22. The summit was a mix of education, advocacy, and policy discussion about urban agriculture — vertical farming in particular — targeted at finding ways to broaden its adoption in cities around the country and around the world. You’ve probably heard quite a bit in recent months about vertical farming — systems for growing food in stacked layers in completely controlled environments, applying inputs such as light, water, and fertilizer in precise amounts. While there’s some use of these systems in greenhouse settings, in many cases, urban farmers are repurposing abandoned buildings or even shipping containers. Match the availability of these facilities in most large urban areas with big cities’ limited access to fresh, […]
