Learning Opportunity: Successful Use of Biostimulants in Floriculture

When successful, biostimulants can be used on plants to improve nutrient efficiency, enhance various stress tolerances, and boost overall growth and crop yield. However, to achieve optimal results, many additional factors within a production environment, including crop inputs, must be carefully and expertly coordinated. So, what are the best ways that growers can utilize biostimulants in their operations?

American Floral Endowment‘s upcoming webinar, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, the final part of its ongoing Grow Pro series for 2025, will cover how biostimulants can be used to enhance plant growth and stress tolerance as well as the best methods to employ for increased success, depending on the type of crop. Topics of the webinar will include:

  • Challenges associated with using biostimulants effectively.
  • How biostimulants can enhance plant growth with reduced fertilizer inputs.
  • How the use of biostimulants can increase the retail shelf life and postharvest quality of plants.

The featured speaker for “Biostimulants for Floriculture Production” is Dr. Michelle Jones, a Professor in the Horticulture and Crop Science Department and the DC Kiplinger Floriculture Endowed Chair at The Ohio State University (OSU). Jones received her B.S. in Agricultural Biochemistry at Iowa State University, followed by her Ph.D. in Horticulture from Purdue University. Her current research and extension programs focus on the use of beneficial bacteria and biostimulants to increase nutrient use efficiency and improve disease and environmental stress tolerance in floriculture crops.

Willing participants can register for the webinar directly through Zoom or by visiting the Grow Pro Webinar series page on the AFE website, where information on future webinars in the series can be found. Recordings of all past Grow Pro webinars can also be found on the AFE’s YouTube channel. Additionally, the full calendar schedule of the Grow Pro Webinar Series for 2025 can be viewed below:
