Terra Nova Companion Plants for 2027 Paint Colors of the Year

Terra Nova Nurseries has released a list of 30 varieties to harmonize with a selection of the recently announced 2027 Paint Colors of the Year. The selected varieties exhibit an array of colors and hues that correspond with the undertones seen across the trending paint inspirations for 2027.

Terra Nova’s breeding and marketing teams created the “Terra Nova Nurseries Paint Colors of the Year Plant List” to correspond with the 2027 color selections from five of the top paint brands. The top colors for 2027, identified by each brand’s color experts, include Behr’s Grounded, Dutch Boy’s Deep Rooted, Graham & Brown’s Rose Earth, Sherwin-Williams’ Celery, and Valspar’s Cottage Door.

The varieties selected for the Terra Nova’s list embody the 2027 paint colors through deep foliage colors, vibrant blooms, colors accented in leaf textures, and overall hues and tones. Terra Nova’s varieties complement or reflect these trending colors and offer finishing growers, retailers, landscape professionals, and home gardeners a balanced collection of plants for beds, borders, containers, and other settings.

“The 2027 Colors of the Year reflect a growing appreciation for the warmth and natural character of the world around us,” says Chuck Pavlich, Director of New Product Development at Terra Nova Nurseries. “From rich, grounding tones to softer botanical hues, this year’s trending colors offer a beautiful starting point for exploring color in the garden. Our 2027 ‘Terra Nova Nurseries Paint Colors of the Year List’ accompanies these shades, while giving consumers and landscapers new ways to bring these inspiring colors to life outdoors.”

2027 Colors of the Year and Complimentary Terra Nova Varieties

Behr’s Grounded is a nature-inspired, mossy olive green that creates a sense of balance and comfort. Its earthy brown undertones pair well with the chocolate-brown spotting on the leaves of Terra Nova’s Podophyllum ‘Spotty Dotty’. The depth and dimension of Grounded is also seen in the foliage of Begonia T Rex® ‘Dancing Peacock’, Begonia T Rex ‘Painter’s Palette’, and Begonia T Rex ‘St. Nick’.

The energy of Dutch Boy’s Deep Rooted, an earthy orange, is echoed in the petals of Coreopsis Nova® ‘Amber’, Echinacea ‘Big Kahuna’, and Echinacea ‘Flame Thrower’. Several heucheras and heucherellas from Terra Nova also showcase the playfulness of Deep Rooted with their foliage colors and textures, including Heuchera Fyre Wing™ ‘Amber’, Heuchera Northern Exposure™ ‘Amber’, Heuchera ‘Rio’, Heucherella ‘Brass Lantern’, Heucherella ‘Buttered Rum’, and Heucherella ‘Sweet Tea’.

Rose Earth from Graham & Brown is a warm, earthy, muted rose, and its blend of pink, brown, and terracotta-inspired tones can be seen in the foliage of Heuchera ‘Changeling’, Heuchera ‘Crème Brule’, Heuchera Fyre Wing ‘Rhodonite’, and Heuchera ‘Topaz Jazz’. Sedum ‘Mocha Magic’ and Thalictrum Nova ‘Star’ also serve as strong companion plants.

Sherwin-Williams’ Celery is a soft yet fresh light-green with warm yellow tinges that feels both invigorating and calming. These feelings are reflected in the blooms of Terra Nova’s Antirrhinum Revelation® ‘Cream’, Echinacea Cara Mia™ ‘Sands’, Echinacea Delightful™ ‘Lace’, Echinacea Prima™ ‘Aura’, Echinacea Prima ‘Lime’, Echinacea Puff® ‘Vanilla’, and Echinacea Sundial™ ‘Zenith’.

Cottage Door by Valspar, a greyed-out blue shade, celebrates beauty with its warm and inviting traces of color. This nontraditional neutral offers appeal similar to Terra Nova’s Brunnera ‘Alexander’s Great’ and Melianthus ‘Antonow’s Blue’, both showcasing corresponding hues in their foliage. Other companion plants for Cottage Door from Terra Nova include Pulmonaria ‘Silver Bouquet’ and Pulmonaria ‘Silver Scimitar’.
