8 New Bidens For Pollinators From CAST 2019

Bidens are gaining more traction in the mainstream market as breeding continues to advance in this area. While older varieties produced a glut of burr-like seeds that stuck to clothing and quickly turned into a nuisance, newer varieties are sterile and don’t set seed. Some varieties still produce pollen, though, making them an attractive plant for beneficial insects.

Innovations in bidens breeding include an expanded color range that now includes whites and pinks, in addition to the familiar orange and yellow tones, improved habits with better branching and less potential for legginess, and new patterns to supplement standard solid-colored blooms.
