Dr. Allan Armitage has taught and mentored students for more than 30 years, and his main objective has always been to help young people succeed. A trip to the California Spring Trials (CAST), an annual week-long event held at various locations throughout the state to launch some of the newest ornamentals plant varieties soon to hit the retail market, is an opportunity of a lifetime.
Dr. Armitage, with the help of Meister Media Worldwide and Greenhouse Grower magazine, wants to help horticulture students become even more passionate and knowledgeable about their profession by providing the Dr. Allan M. Armitage Scholarship for aspiring horticulturists.
As a recipient of the scholarship, the winner will receive:
- All traveling expenses (airfare, hotels, meals) paid
- First-hand experience about the plants the industry will be offering in the future
- An up-close look at industry trends shaping the future
- Opportunities to network, make new contacts, and get yourself known in the industry
- Dr. A as your mentor to guide you through genetics from the world’s major plant breeders and introduce you to the people that make this industry so exciting.
Now is your chance to work with the most authoritative and highly respected expert in the country.
The Dr. Allan M. Armitage CAST Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate horticulture students in two- or four-year schools. To apply, submit the following materials to [email protected] no later than February 20, 2020:
- A 500-word essay on why you are passionate about pursuing a career in horticulture or plant breeding
- A letter of recommendation from your college professor or academic advisor
- Resume
Dr. Armitage will announce the winner of the scholarship on February 28, 2020.
