Early bird registration is now open for the 2018 Farwest Show, which will be held August 22-24 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, OR. With the theme of “Meet Me There” for this year’s gathering, Farwest 2018 attendees and exhibitors can take advantage of pre-registration discounts on the show, education, and show events until the end of July. After July 31, registration costs will increase to standard rates.
With a compelling list of speakers, events, and exhibitors, green industry professionals of every stripe should discover plenty of reasons to attend the Farwest Show. To help attendees plan their show experience, Farwest 2018 has launched a revamped website, where visitors can peruse speaker and event information, and find an official show hotel at event rate. The redesigned and streamlined website has a clean, colorful design that is easy to navigate on a mobile device or desktop computer. It is packed with information about show features, speakers, and events.
“Farwest has a strong tradition, but at the same time, we update the show each year to keep pace and relevance with the dynamics of an ever-changing industry,” says Allan Niemi, Director of Events for the Oregon Association of Nurseries, which produces the show. “With all the new-and-improved features and events we have planned, there’s no reason not to meet us there and explore everything that Farwest has to offer.”
Greenhouse Tour Highlights Sustainable Production
This year’s Farwest Show will focus on sustainable practices for greenhouse production in its tour, “Growing Toward Energy Efficiency in Greenhouse Production.” Sponsored by The Peters Company, the tour will highlight developments and improvements in greenhouse operations toward a more sustainable business model. Energy efficiency expert Ulrike Mengelberg of Energy Trust of Oregon will guide the day-long tour, which will include stops at F&B Farms & Nursery, Terra Nova Nurseries Inc., Smith Gardens, and Anderson Pots. Along the way, Mengelberg will share insight and information on sustainable applications. The tour will give participants first-hand looks at the best plant material in greenhouse production, concluding at container producer Anderson Pots and its state-of-the-art water cooling tower system.
Solution Center at Farwest Offers Mini Sessions Focused on Greenhouse Operations and Production
The 2018 Farwest Show will also present free live mini-sessions with special interest for greenhouse growers at the Solution Center on the show floor of the Oregon Convention Center. The mini sessions take place each day during the show. Topics covered will give greenhouse professionals knowledge and solutions for more productive and efficient operations.
In power-packed, 30-minute sessions, industry experts with greenhouse expertise will talk about subjects such as pest management, irrigation, biocontrol perspectives, and new plant introductions in 2018.
The mini-sessions are free to attendees and are designed to give attendees an educational reprieve from the busy show floor. The complete schedule, speakers, and topics for the Solution Center can be found here.
