How the Canadian Government Is Helping Vegetable Growers Fight COVID-19

The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers Association (OGVGA) has expressed appreciation for recently announced federal funding meant to help international farm workers.

In a news release, the OGVGA thanked the Government of Canada for directing $58.6 million toward support and protection of foreign workers in the agri-food sector, including greenhouse vegetable production.

“These measures will further help our members ensure the safety of workers on farm, as well as assisting in further improvements to living quarters needed due to COVID-19,” says Joe Sbrocchi, OGVGA General Manager.

The migrant worker population in Kingsville and Leamington continues to have one of the highest infection rates for the novel coronavirus in the province.
