Hurricane Ida Deals Heavy Blow to Horticulture Operations

Hurricane Ida and its remnants have left a trail of damage to several sectors of agriculture, including horticulture and greenhouse businesses.

In New Jersey, tornadoes led to Delaware Valley Wholesale Florist in Sewell, NJ, suffering extensive damage. In addition, greenhouse cannabis operation Acreage Holdings in Sewell had damage to its cultivation center, which was nearing the completion of its construction.

“The damage will significantly delay the opening of the Sewell cultivation center,” says Steve Goertz, Acreage’s Chief Financial Officer. “Based on currently available information, we do not expect the damage to our operations from these events to have a material impact on our current financial condition. Production at our Sewell facility, however, is unlikely to commence in the first quarter of 2022 as previously expected.”

A report from The Advocate in Baton Rouge also outlines how the storm affected all segments of agriculture in Louisiana.
