Longwood’s Lilytopia Less Than 3 Weeks Away

The wait is nearly over. Lilytopia at Longwood Gardens arrives May 21 and stretches through the end of the month in Kennett Square, Pa. The key date for growers, however, is May 24. That’s when Longwood is hosting the Lilytopia Symposium, an event for all those involved in cut or potted lilies–or even floral design.
Professionals from both North America and The Netherlands will conduct a full-day symposium May 24. Design demonstrations will focus on everything from proper handling to cutting-edge design trends.
Growing seminars, meanwhile, will explore the latest cultivation techniques, including pest and disease management, on lilies. Marketing seminars are also part of the symposium, and they’ll offer effective techniques to boost consumer awareness and demand of liles.
A designer’s tour with expert Dorien van den Berg leads into the May 24 event. Those interested in learning about van den Berg’s experiences designing the 10,000-stem Lilytopia display can tour the East Conservatory with her either Saturday, May 22 or Sunday, May 23. Tours with van den Berg will be given both days at 1:30 p.m.
The deadline to register for the Lilytopia Symposium is Monday, May 17. Download a registration form here. Registration is $99 per person. A few symposium seats are still available.
Additionally, you can learn more about the symposium’s speakers at LongwoodGardens.com. Among the scheduled speakers are Ron Beck, John Done, William B. Miller, Talmage McLaurin and Arie Peterse. Visit LongwoodGardens.com for more information and check out a few photos of Longwood, if you haven’t before seen it, right here at GreenhouseGrower.com.
Want More On Lilies?
Lilytopia isn’t just catching the attention of growers. The Associated Press recently produced a story on the many new varieties of lilies arriving from The Netherlands that thousands of potential consumers have ultimately read by now.
Growers will also want to check out Juergen Steininger’s January article “Producing Potted Lilies” right here at GreenhouseGrower.com. Steininger, the grower at Longwood Gardens, lists the details growers need to know to create the ideal growing environment for potted lilies.
