Pindstrup Mosebrug A/S, one of the world’s leading producers of growing media for professional growers, has acquired La Mundial de Coco, a Dominican Republic-based supplier of high-quality coco products. The acquisition supports Pindstrup’s green transition and strengthens its sourcing set-up.

Driven by the increasing global demand for growing media, Pindstrup continues to expand and diversify its raw-material foundation. Acquiring La Mundial de Coco – a supplier of renewable coco fiber and coco pith – is a natural next step in Pindstrup’s strategy for growth and in its commitment to supplying more sustainable solutions to its customers.

Pindstrup is among the industry leaders driving the development of more sustainable growing media solutions. The acquisition of La Mundial de Coco, combined with ongoing expansions in wood fibre production, enables new opportunities within growing media based on renewable and circular raw materials.

“I am very thankful that the owner of La Mundial de Coco, Alberto Rosi, and his team have placed their trust in Pindstrup and allowed us to take over this well-run company,” says René Gjerding, CEO of Pindstrup. “The acquisition supports our growth journey as well as the green transition that Pindstrup is fully committed to. Our target for 2028 is to reach 40% non-peat raw materials in our growing media, and we are already at 34%. La Mundial de Coco’s products and the possibilities to grow this business is a significant step in the right direction of setting even more ambitious targets to include more sustainable raw materials in our solutions in the future.”

Unique in the industry, La Mundial de Coco processes the coco husk mechanically and entirely under roof. This ensures high product quality, independence from weather conditions, and full control over product parameters that are key for growers in greenhouses worldwide.

“La Mundial de Coco processes its products in safe and well-controlled conditions — the best set-up we have seen, and one that bears evidence of a strong technological foundation as well as standards and values that are fully aligned with those of Pindstrup,” Gjerding says. “With the existing plant as our base, we are very committed to investing in and further developing La Mundial de Coco.”

“La Mundial de Coco is very proud to join the Pindstrup Group, a well-respected player in the industry that we have come to know as a trustworthy company with a dedicated team,” says Alberto Rosi, founder of La Mundial de Coco. “I am pleased to know that what we founded 30 years ago will continue to grow in the hands of Pindstrup.”

Completed less than five months after the acquisition of Latvia-based Compaqpeat, the investment in La Mundial de Coco stresses Pindstrup’s determination to strengthen its global operations and secure the resources needed to meet growing market demand with more sustainable solutions.

Klasmann-Deilmann Acquires Patented Gel Plug

Klasmann-Deilmann has acquired VelociGro from U.S. investor Ospraie. VelociGro is known as a producer of innovative gel plugs. With this takeover, Klasmann-Deilmann secures important patents and expanded expertise in the development of forward-looking solutions for young plant production.

“We are experiencing a profound transformation process,” says Moritz Böcking, Managing Director of the Klasmann-Deilmann Group. “Our customers expect solutions that meet ecological requirements, are economically viable and can be seamlessly integrated into existing production systems. This is exactly where we come in with the acquisition of VelociGro: we are specifically expanding our portfolio with technologies that offer our customers even more performance and crop security.”

“Klasmann-Deilmann and Ospraie share a common vision for the horticulture of tomorrow,” says Hunter Baldwin, CEO of Velocigro. “Nurseries need efficient, competitive and sustainable solutions.”

“With the support of Ospraie Ag Science, Hunter and his team developed a scientific idea into a commercial product. VelociGro created the Gel-Plug, and we believe Klasmann-Deilmann is the logical successor to distribute this technology worldwide,” says Jason Mraz, Co-Founder and President of Ospraie Management.

At the heart of the acquisition of VelociGro is a patented gel plug technology for young plant cultivation. The gel plugs are made from natural, compostable materials and provide a consistent, sterile and reliable environment for germination and early plant growth. The products are particularly suitable for seedlings and can be used in all common cultivation methods, right up to modern indoor cultivation systems.

“With the gel plugs, we are expanding our portfolio with an innovative product that bridges the gap between classic substrates and highly specialized solutions and offers great potential for young plant cultivation,” says Sebastian Kipp, Director of Innovation at Klasmann-Deilmann. Extensive trials in various crops, from vegetable seedlings and ornamental plants to specialized crops, have shown that germination rates, root development, and crop homogeneity are always at least on a par with established systems and in many cases even exceed them.

“With VelociGro, we are underlining our commitment to actively shaping the development of modern cultivation systems,” says Damian Ikemann, Managing Director of the Klasmann-Deilmann Group. “We can now combine patented expertise with global production and distribution capabilities. Klasmann-Deilmann will scale the new solutions and make them available internationally.”

The gel plug technology will be introduced in selected pilot projects with major international customers. At the same time, an interdisciplinary team is working on production capacities and integration into existing product lines and consulting concepts.
