Cornell Floriculture Field Day In July

Cornell University’s ninth annual Floriculture Field Day will take place Tuesday, July 19 at the Cornell campus in Ithaca, N.Y.

This year’s morning program will center on marketing. Attendees will hear from individuals who’ve found creative ways to wholesale, retail and direct market their products. Todd Lighthouse will talk about the good and bad of selling at farmers’ markets, as well as how he uses the organic niche to market his products. Anna Steinkraus will provide insight on how she sells through her on farmers’ markets. Lloyd Traven and Stephanie Whitehouse of Peace Tree Farm, meanwhile, will provide marketing strategies wholesalers can use.

The afternoon will be spent viewing the annual and perennial trials at Bluegrass Lane. Participants can walk the trial beds at their leisure or join informal guided tours. Attendees can enter their container designs into the Kathy Pufahl Memorial Container contest. Ice cream will also be served.

Additionally, attendees may want to visit attend IPM In-Depth to be held the previous day. This is the fourth time this hands-on workshop will be offered on campus.
