New offerings and series from PanAmerican Seed, Beekenkamp, and Green Fuse Botanicals made a great impression on the Greenhouse Grower team at California Spring Trials. Making the trip this year are Managing Editor Julie Hullett, contributor and former Greenhouse Grower editor Robin Siktberg, and Contributing Editor Allan Armitage.

XPetchoa 'Caliburst' (PanAmerican Seed)
This is the first XPetchoa from seed. ‘Caliburst’ combines the vibrant yellow from calibrachoa with the flower size, cold-durable production, and short daylength of a Wave petunia. It works beautifully in combos and containers, and finishes in six to seven weeks in spring, and just four to five weeks in summer.

Impatiens ‘Beacon Lipstick’ and Impatiens Beacon Pearl Island Mixture (PanAmerican Seed)
Katie Rotella of Ball Horticultural tells us that ‘Beacon Lipstick’ is one of the final pieces necessary in the impatiens-downy-mildew-resistant Beacon series. Ball will be discontinuing its iconic Super Elfin series, confident that the Beacon series is on its way to becoming the next iconic impatiens.
The Kitchen Minis Collection from PanAmerican Seed is meant to be grown indoors, perfect for apartment and condominium dwellers. This year’s new introduction is ‘Mini Potted Cucumber’. Crisp, sweet cucumbers are ready for harvest after five weeks. These cucumbers are seedless, and therefore do not require insects for pollination. The plants last four to six weeks indoors.

Coleus 'Premium Sun Coral Candy' (PanAmerican Seed)
Coleus ‘Premium Sun Coral Candy’ is a new addition to the Fantastic Foliage Collection from PanAmerican Seed. This variety has thin, serrated leaves that display a coral-pink center that blends to green. It received an award from All-America Selections in November 2022. ‘Coral Candy’ has a reliable performance in sunny gardens, shady spots, and patio planters. It can tolerate full sun in humid areas, including USDA Zones 9-10.

Hydrangea Tabletensia Series (Ball Ingenuity)
Despite the common conception, hydrangeas are finding a new home indoors. Tabletensia is a new low-growing series perfect for indoors, such as a centerpiece at the dining room table. These varieties, Pink and Blue, should be transplanted into an 8-inch to 9-inch pot for finishing. ‘Tabletensia’ will thrive indoors for several months.
