Many of the preventive measures in pest management involve greenhouse humidity control. Where does all the humidity come from? Plants naturally transpire water, which keeps them healthy and cool. Evaporation from all moist surfaces increases humidity as well. Besides making diseases more likely, high humidity also interferes with pollination and, therefore, fruit set.

Rick Snyder, a Professor and Extension vegetable specialist at the Truck Crops Experiment Station at Mississippi State University, offers three suggestions on managing the greenhouse environment, including plant density, equipment maintenance, and knowing when humidity might be at a peak.
