Adorn Combating Key Diseases

Valent's Adorn has a new mode of action that provides control of key diseases and resistance management.

January 18, 2010

Adorn fungicide from Valent Professional Products has received Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration for control of downy mildew, Phytophthora and Pythium in greenhouses and nurseries.

Available for use as a spray or drench, Adorn is a new chemistry featuring the active ingredient fluopicolide. Adorn is an excellent addition to fungicide rotations and plays a key role in resistance management programs.

"Adorn is the only chemistry in its class, so there are no resistance issues and no cross-resistance issues," says Jill Calabro, field market development manager and plant pathologist for Valent. "That provides a huge benefit for growers who find themselves in need of additional options in the fight against disease and in resistance management."

Researchers working with Adorn are seeing that it performs well against some of the most important diseases facing growers today.
Margery Daughtrey, senior extension associate in the Department of Plant Pathology and Plant Microbe Biology at Cornell University's Long Island Horticultural Research & Extension Center, has performed studies using Adorn with favorable results.

"We found Adorn to be very effective at halting Phytophthora crown rot on Calibrachoa, and at reducing root rot and stunting caused by Pythium aphanidermatum on snapdragon," Daughtrey says.

What University (s) data can I see that shows the efficacy of Adorn for Phtyophthora control on Rhododendrons and Downy mildew control on Rudabeckia and Roses?

Will Adorn as a preventative application control Phytophthora parasitica and cinnamoni? Will Adorn also control the Downy Mildew species that occurrs on Rudbeckia and Roses? Is a drench better than a foliar spray? Is Adorn systemic?
