Greenhouse Cannabis Ranks High in California Crop Report

Greenhouse Cannabis Lighting From Fluence Monterey CountyCannabis has emerged as one of the leading crops produced in California’s Monterey County. The recently released 2019 Monterey County Crop Report shows the overall production value of the agriculture industry in the county was up 3.5% to $4.4 billion.

Leaf lettuce is the top crop, followed by strawberries, head lettuce, and broccoli. For the first time, a supplemental Cannabis Production report shows the overall production value of cannabis at $449,688,000 in 2019, putting it fifth in line of top crops.

“It’s a historic day,” said Aaron Johnson of Monterey County National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws and the Coastal Growers Association, in an article in the Monterey Herald. Johnson added that he was proud to see cannabis included as part of agriculture and as a reported commodity.

Cannabis produced in a greenhouse accounted for more than half of the state’s production area, according to the report, which can be accessed here.
