Long-Time New York Orchid Grower Nets Cannabis License

Peconic GrowersRiverhead-based Peconic Growers LLC, a long-time orchid grower in Long Island, NY, was recently awarded one of the few adult-use conditional cannabis licenses by the Cannabis Control Board of the state of New York. To date, the state has issued only 110 licenses to cultivators across the state.

The Peconic Growers team is led by Icilio “Bill” Bianchi, a lifelong resident of Suffolk County and former New York State Assemblyman, and his team, who have spent more than five decades growing wholesale orchids on the east end of Long Island and more recently, began cultivating hemp at the greenhouse in Riverhead.

Given the prerequisites set forth by the state, few candidates qualify for, and even fewer have received approval, to cultivate cannabis from the state. Conditional cultivators have the ability to begin growing cannabis for adult-use immediately, with the hopes of ensuring an adequate supply of cannabis when the state’s adult-use market launches sometime at the end of this year or in early 2023.
