Mid-American Growers Forms Partnership to Boost Cannabis Education in the Midwest

Mid-American GrowersIllinois Valley Community College (IVCC) has formed a partnership with Mid-American Growers that is designed to strengthen the school’s new cannabis production certificate.

Mid-American Growers is known for growing flowers; however, in recent years, the company has expanded into hemp production and is now moving into growing medical and recreational cannabis, as well as the hemp production they already have.

The partnership is beneficial because it not only allows students to learn about the new industry, it also includes an internship for anyone interested.

The internship will feature instruction from Mid-American Growers cannabis experts on how to handle, study, and grow live cannabis plants at the Granville, IL, facility in which Mid-American Growers is located.

The course at IVCC, which began in August, is called “Introduction to Cannabis Production.” Not only will this two-semester program teach students about the production of industrial hemp, but students will also learn about cannabis for recreational and medicinal use.

“Our students are learning about a quickly emerging local industry while positioning themselves for careers,” says IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.

The partnership also is beneficial for Mid-American Growers as it will strengthen its work force and allow for more production. The operation already has more than 3.6 million square feet of greenhouse factories on at least 231 acres. It currently operates the largest hemp production factory in the world.
