Greenhouse and nursery growers across the country, including in Southern California, operated at a break-neck speed in 2020 — and many are bracing for the same flurry of activity this year..

Most companies reported huge increases in sales and first-time customers last year, who were eager to grow their own food — even in containers — or enrich their homes with beautiful plants.

But the stress and sheer labor involved in growers having to reconfigure their businesses to keep staff and customers safe during the pandemic brought many challenges. This year, the challenges include properly forecasting demand, as well as balancing inventory based on those forecasts.
