Bringing The Tropics To Detroit

MGM Grand Detroit’s Grand Garden is a hot spot this year, and Meiring Greenhouse & Farms in Carleton, Mich., has made it a site worth seeing. All plants used in the summer garden, with the exception of the palms, were sourced from Meiring and specifically grown for the display.

The Grand Garden display transports visitors to a tropical paradise in a journey that begins with a luminous wave of chartreuse plants that flow from the water feature on the building tower. Vivid blue walls swirl through the garden between towering palm trees that sway and rustle in the summer breeze.

At the back of the garden, giant sunflowers raise their faces, dramatic agave plants sprout from juniper masses and fiery marigold globes emerge from the earth behind. Large-leaved tropical banana plants rise from a mass of ‘Double Knockout’ roses in the center, encircled by ribbons of manicured boxwood hedges and vibrant purple sage.

The Grand Garden is free to view by the public throughout the summer months.
