Cornell IPM May Be Eliminated

Cornell University’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program may be eliminated after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposed to end its funding last month.

According to The Cornell Daily Sun, four of IPM’s five departments will close on March 31 unless new sources of funding are found. Community is the only IPM department that will be unaffected, while fruits, vegetables, livestock and field crops, and ornamentals and community are at risk of being eliminated.

New York State proposed eliminating a $1 million state allocation last year. New York growers, however, pressured lawmakers to restore $500,000 to the program.
