Ohio Greenhouse Helps Out ‘CSI: NY’

Alan Hirt of Hirt’s Gardens in Medina, Ohio, is accustomed to getting phone calls from people looking for hard-to-find plants. But when the producers of “CSI: NY” called with a plant request, well, that was a new one.

The producers were seeking several Mimosa pudica–”the sensitive plant”–to feature in the Sept. 24 season premiere of the show, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported. The show producers tracked down the plant at Hirt’s website.

The plant is nicknamed “the sensitive plant” because when touched, its leaves coyly close inward and droop, and then reopen within minutes.

“They were looking for this flower because it figured into the plot,” Hirt says. “It had been found at a crime scene, or something like that. We are one of the few greenhouses that grow and sell this very unusual plant.”

Hirt admits he doesn’t watch “CSI: NY,” but he caught the episode online. “I just watched the part that has the plant,” he says.

do your part in going green and get a rain barrel. put this under your down spout and use the best water you can on your flowers and garden. no chemicals like city water.

How does free water sound? Rain barrels are a great way to conserve on your water bill and and just conserving water in general. Simply place under down spout and you can water your garden, yard or plants using free stored rainwater. I use heavy duty food grade 55 gallon plastic barrels with a inlet basket (to prevent mosquitoes from nesting and debris from entering barrel) and heavy duty plastic fittings for spigot , hose hook-ups and overflow. i put a squire nut on the back side of the spicket and over flow fitting to lock it into place. a-1 quality! most people just thread the spicket in the very thin plastic with not much threads to hold things in place. These barrels last year after year after year. Overflow barrels are $50.00. These barrels are sold elsewhere for $99.00-$349.00 plus shipping. These also can be painted any color to match your house.

$ 50.00 each

NEW IN STOCK—- FOOD GRADE 275 GALLON TOTE WITH VALVE. RAIN BARREL DELUXE !!! HARD TO FIND THIS TOTE THAT IS FOOD GRADE.. THIS IS CLEAN INSIDE AND OUT. THIS HAD HONEY IN IT BEFORE. $ 100.00 CASH FIRM.
