TreeTown USA Acquires Automation Company

TreeTown-USAJust months after acquiring the Hines ornamental nursery division of Color Spot Holdings, TreeTown USA is getting into the automation business with the acquisition of Midas Nursery Solutions of Hillsboro, OR, which provides nursery automation products including tray automation, materials handling, potting solutions, and hand-held machines.

The purchase represents TreeTown USA’s first acquisition that doesn’t consist of a nursery operation, and further solidifies the company’s commitment to using the most advanced automation, mechanization, and lean practices available in the industry.

“Having Midas as a part of the family will go a long way in helping us develop, implement, and institutionalize industry-leading solutions to mechanization and lean practices,” says Jonathan Saperstein, CEO of TreeTown USA. “This expanded relationship will also allow us to better capitalize on Midas’ capabilities and values that they have continued to demonstrate over the years of our work with them.”

Going forward, Midas, as a subsidiary of TreeTown USA, will no longer support outside companies and will concentrate on supporting its parent company. With the acquisition, Matt Gold, President of Midas Nursery Solutions, will assume direct responsibility for TreeTown USA’s industrial engineering and project teams.

Current customers of Midas should know that Clay Starke, one of Gold’s close colleagues at Midas, is starting a new business called Hort Tech Systems, which will assume the current equipment vendors and customers of Midas.
