Video of the Week: Tips for Selling to Retailers, Restaurants, and Institutions

Each week, Greenhouse Grower highlights a video that shines a spotlight on the controlled-environment industry, from crop protection advice to insider views on plant production at greenhouse operations across the country. Have you recently produced a video you want us to highlight? If so, please send a link to Greenhouse Grower Senior Editor Brian Sparks at [email protected].

Michigan State University’s new Wholesale Marketing and Food Business Marketing 101 video series weaves together interviews with farmers, food businesses, and marketing experts to help growers break into the wholesale market and promote their farms online. The videos were created by Taste the Local Difference with support from the USDA North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NCR-SARE).

Selling farm goods to restaurants, retail stores, or institutions requires specific skills that you can either learn from years of direct experience or from the voices of people at each point in the local wholesale food chain. The Wholesale Marketing video series could save you years of learning through trial and error.

Each of the four videos and the toolkit of resources are freely available to all.

You can check out one of the videos, covering what retailers need from farmers in communication, delivery, packaging, below.
