On Monday, June 8, the webinar talks kick off with the Autonomous Greenhouse Challenge of Wageningen University & Research (WUR). During a six-month period, international teams conducted an experiment to grow a cherry tomato crop remotely in a greenhouse. The winner of this challenge will be announced during the webinar, and the organizers share their analysis of the results.

Silke Hemming, head of the scientific research team Greenhouse Technology at WUR, says this challenge is important for the industry.

“Multi-disciplinary research and international cooperation are essential to create new solutions for safe and high-quality greenhouse crop production,” Hemming says. “The crossover of the high-tech industry and greenhouse horticulture is an excellent example.”

Tuesday, June 9 will feature a webinar about indoor/vertical farming. In addition, a panel of international experts will look deeper into the flaws of our food supply chain revealed by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

“People need access to safe, affordable, and healthy produced food independent of where they live,” says Gus van der Feltz, Chairman of FarmTech Society. “Controlled-environment agriculture can help realize this for many millions.”

The webinar theme on Wednesday, June 10, is “Medical Cannabis Still Going Strong.” Moderated by Phytonext, experts will give an update about their regional markets, from the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. There will also be a discussion of cultivation aspects and the latest developments by market participants such as Ridder and Grodan.

“Will the cannabis industry continue to boom? The answer is a resounding yes,” says Bob Hoban, President and Founder of the Hoban Law Group. “We are laying the groundwork for a new global commodity.
