A Solution To Downy Mildew On 'Goldsturm'

Jelitto Perennial Seeds is making Jet heat-treated 'Goldsturm' rudbeckia seeds available for shipment to growers who've had difficulties with Septoria leaf spot and downy mildew on 'Goldsturm.'

The Jet seeds are heat treated, eliminating any disease spores that might be present on a crop that's given growers headaches over the last decade.

"Seed-borne pathogens are usually the least of the problems, yet since there is a possibility that a small amount of disease is possible on seeds, we have taken the precaution," says Mary Vaananen, Jelitto's North American manager. "The Jet seeds are heat-treated, eliminating any disease spores that might be present. The extra expense would be justified if growers were having difficulties and wanted to be sure of a clean start."
