Petal It Forward 2026 Spreads Kindness Across All 50 States

The Society of American Florists’ 12th annual Petal It Forward united 800 floral businesses and organizations on Oct. 14, 2026, bringing flowers and unexpected moments of kindness to communities across all 50 states and seven additional countries.

The campaign’s premise is simple: Give people two bouquets — one to keep and one to share. At hospitals, schools, shopping centers, and other community gathering places, participants surprised recipients with flowers and an opportunity to brighten someone else’s day.

In addition to U.S. participants, floral businesses and organizations in Colombia, Canada, Ecuador, England, Jamaica, India, and The Bahamas joined the effort.

At the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute in Little Rock, AR, Norwood Day Floral Company offered bouquets to patients arriving for appointments and treatments. Some recipients immediately passed their second bouquets to the caregivers accompanying them.

“Seeing these patients turn and hand their additional bouquet of flowers to their caregiver, it’s something really incredible to witness,” says UAMS board member Natalie Rockefeller.

For Norwood co-owner Christina Day, the experience was rewarding for those giving the flowers, too.

“Seeing them walk up, expecting to just go into an appointment or a treatment and then going, ‘I get flowers, and they’re free?’ and it just really brightens their day — that makes us smile as well,” says Day.

The campaign also drew local news coverage, bringing its message of kindness and the benefits of flowers to wider audiences. Bachman’s Inc.’s giveaway of 3,000 fresh flower stems at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN, attracted attention from numerous media outlets. WIAT in Birmingham, AL, covered Norton’s Florist’s giveaway outside UAB Hospital, and WJJQ in Wisconsin reported on Trig’s floral teams distributing bouquets. In South Dakota, Carrie Moore, AAF, PFCI, SDCF, of Petals & Pages appeared on KOTA TV to discuss flowers’ mood-boosting effects ahead of giveaways in Hill City and Custer.

Growers, wholesalers, and retailers extended the campaign’s visibility through social media, sharing photos and videos of giveaways across the country. Kennicott Brothers handed out 500 bouquets on DePaul University’s campus in Chicago, while California flower grower Joseph & Sons documented its team distributing bouquets at a shopping center. In Houston, wholesaler Bill Doran Company partnered with a local barbecue restaurant to surprise diners with flowers.

The spirit of the event also extended across borders. In Pune, India, Pandharinath Mhaske, Director of Sneh Florist, handed bouquets to passersby, offering a simple gesture of connection amid the pressures of daily life.

“Right now many people are under a lot of stress and times are a little difficult, but we know what flowers can do,” says Mhaske. “They lighten the mood. They lift the spirits.”
