Use the Sun
The sun has been used for millennia to grow our crops; the future will continue this trend.
“For every gram of cannabis produced,” Douglas says, “greenhouses consume 26% less power and release 42% less carbon emissions than indoor cultivation facilities. New greenhouse technologies and materials will provide the grower with greater control over the environment, while minimizing the facility’s carbon footprint.”
Bio Agents are Your Friends
Cannabis laws in most states prohibit the use of chemical pesticides when cultivating. It’s in the grower’s best interest, however, to make use of a few beneficial bugs, fungi, and bacteria.
This will help growers not only save money, it will also eliminate the need for chemicals ruining or stressing out the plant.
Try More Efficient Varieties
Some varieties of cannabis are hardier than others. Douglas recommends, going forward, cultivators should grow varieties that require less intensive lighting and can handle more common stressors.
“Future growers will need to do more with less light,” Douglas says. “In addition to using more energy-efficient grow lights, cultivators should consider selecting plants that don’t require as much light to grow.”
