American Society for Horticultural Science Highlights Early Career Achievements

ASHS Early Career AwardsEach year the American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) offers an awards program to recognize outstanding member accomplishments in horticultural research, Extension, and education. Awards are given each year at an awards ceremony and the Annual Business Meeting at the ASHS Annual Conference, which this year takes place Aug. 3-7 in Dallas.

The ASHS Professional Early Career Awards recognize ASHS members for outstanding contributions to horticultural science through their professional activities within seven years of completing their final degrees (BS, MS, PhD, etc.) prior to their employment. A nominee must have completed their final degree within the past seven years and “prior to employment” means that they have not been previously employed and then completed a final degree and are now working at another position.

The list of 2026 Early Career Award winners include some familiar names:

  • Josh Henry of Ball Seed Company (Industry and Consulting)
  • Melinda Knuth of North Carolina State University (Research, Innovation, and Creativity)
  • Jack McCoy of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Teaching and Educational Systems)
  • Ping Yu of the University of Georgia (Extension and Outreach).

Congratulations to each of these winners!
