The 2026 Edition of the Farmers’ Almanac to Be Its Last
It’s the end of an era, more than 200 years in the making, as the editor of the Farmers’ Almanac has announced that the 2026 edition will be the final publication.
The End of the Farmers’ Almanac
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the end of what has not only been an annual tradition in millions of homes and hearths for hundreds of years, but also a way of life, an inspiration for many who realize the wisdom of generations past is the key to the generations of the future,” says Editor Sandi Duncan.
The news release cites the decision to shutter the publication “reflects the growing financial challenges of producing and distributing the Almanac in today’s chaotic media environment.”
Since 1818, the Farmers’ Almanac has provided seasonal weather outlooks. The long-standing publication’s proprietary forecasting model was developed using correlations between celestial events and various meteorological conditions. The publishers pride themselves on the advanced insights their forecasting model affords. In August, the Farmers’ Almanac released its 2025-2026 winter forecast, forecasting a theme of “Chill, Snow, Repeat.”
Past Coverage of the Farmers’ Almanac from Meister Media
Over the years, I have published numerous pieces here on GrowingProduce.com highlighting the long-range weather predictions from the Farmers’ Almanac as well as from The Old Farmer’s Almanac, a similar, but not directly related publication. The articles featuring the seasonal outlooks always scored well with our readers, despite modern technology providing multitudes of other weather forecasting options.
In a recent reader poll, Growing Produce asked: Do you use the Almanacs to help prepare for the coming year’s weather? More than 56% of respondents answered Yes.
