Your Predictions for the Greenhouse Market in 2024

The start of a new year is a great time for predictions on what’s to come. Do you have any predictions of your own? Be sure to drop them in the Comments box below.

  • “Consumers will continue to spend less due the high cost of everyday home essentials.”
  • “I am optimistic particularly with our strategy of diversified product line and diversified customer base; our largest customer represents only 2.5% of our overall sales.”
  • “Demand will remain consistent with the previous two years, even if the economy moves towards recession.”
  • “Our sales have continued to grow post-COVID and I believe this is the new normal.”
  • “Softer demand overall. We are now dealing with the hangover from the gardening binge of 2020.”
  • “Growth. I expect to continue to see growth, especially in vegetable starts. Our losses in-house were due to production issues, and not to demand. We learned our lesson and will do better next year.”
  • “Industry is either flat or goes backwards by 10% in total sales of flowers/plants for 2024. Very little expansions or new builds because of high interest rates. This year will tell us if plants are truly the ‘affordable luxury’.”
  • “More small independents will close or be absorbed by corporations that can buy at such large volumes they can undercut a staple item and sell it as loss leader to get people into their operations and the independents cannot even purchase at the price they sell at.”
  • “I see sales staying similar to last year. This is nothing to complain about. We see some older growers closing their doors because there is no one in the family that wants to take it over.”
