Help Us Recognize the Best in Plant Growing, Breeding, and Innovation

Greenhouse Grower’s long history of presenting awards to innovative growers, breeders, suppliers, and others through the Medal of Excellence program continues this year. At AmericanHort’s Cultivate’22, we will present the following awards, among others:

• Head Grower of the Year, presented annually to the head grower of an ornamentals operation who has been a leader in his or her own operation and serves as an example for growers everywhere to emulate. Nominees for Head Grower of the Year should exemplify modern, high-quality production practices, embrace technology and innovation, lead, motivate and mentor others on staff, make valuable contributions to the operation’s management team and are actively engaged in the industry. Last year’s winner was Steve Garvey of Dallas Johnson Greenhouses.
• Operation of the Year, presented to a greenhouse business that has exhibited excellence in all facets of its operation and serves as an example for the nation’s growers. Nominees for Operation of the Year should exemplify modern, high-quality production practices, demonstrate innovative marketing, be strong on customer service, embrace technology and demonstrate community and industry leadership. Dickman Farms took home the award in 2021.
• Technology of the Year, presented to greenhouse industry suppliers who are developing new or time-tested innovations that make crop production more efficient while improving plant quality. The award recognizes excellence in categories such as lighting, automation, structures, data management, environmental controls, and more. Learn more about Candidus, last year’s winner, here.
• The Industry Achievement Award, which recognizes the lifetime accomplishments of individuals and organizations that have devoted their life’s work to the mission of advancing plant varieties and the floriculture industry.
• The Innovator Award recognizes an individual(s), a company, or a partnership of companies that have demonstrated excellence by developing a breakthrough idea, process, or technology, and have shown its transformational potential to improve an area in horticulture/controlled-environment ag and create economic value. It also recognizes innovators who have demonstrated excellence and innovation in the early stages of their careers or throughout the lifetime of their careers, or individuals and companies that are in the early stages of an innovation breakthrough.
