As the carbon footprint and energy consumption associated with today’s cannabis industry is of increasing concern, Glass House partnered with Seinergy to conduct an in-depth analysis of its environmental footprint. Key findings from the report include:

Electric Energy Use Intensity

Glass House Farms uses 90.2% less electricity than the average cannabis greenhouse and 95% less electricity than average indoor grows.

  • Glass House: 13 kilowatt-hours per square foot
  • Average Greenhouse: 134 kilowatt-hours per square foot
  • Average Indoor: 161 kilowatt-hours per square foot

Carbon Productivity

Glass House Farms emits 67.8% less carbon than the average cannabis greenhouse and 96.2% less carbon than the average indoor grown.

  • Glass House: 101 kilograms CO2 per kilogram flower
  • Average Greenhouse: 314 kilograms CO2 per kilogram flower
  • Average Indoor: 2,643 kilograms CO2 per kilogram flower

In other words, it requires the same amount of energy to 1 ounce of indoor flower as it does 10 ounces of Glass House flower.
