Pennsylvania Foliage Grower Expands Into Florida

Van Hoekelen GreenhousesVan Hoekelen Greenhouses, based in Kline Township, PA, has solidified its expanding growing presence in the Southeast U.S. The company recently completed the acquisition of a 6-acre greenhouse in Apopka, FL, that it had been leasing from IGI Growers for several years for local production of Christmas cactus liners, ivy, and 4- and 6-inch foliage.

The property has been named VGH South, and according to Alexander van Hoekelen of Van Hoekelen Greenhouses, not much will change in the short term.

“We used almost the entire facility, so the only change now is the change of ownership,” Van Hoekelen says. “All employees, equipment, and products will remain. As owners, we will stay in Pennsylvania and we will communicate with the ones handling the day-to-day operation on a daily basis. As it is not that far, we can visit the facility often, as well.”

In the long term, Van Hoekelen says the plan is to expand, grow, and use the facility as the company’s home place in Florida, to continue operations. It also plans to improve the infrastructure and invest in the cooling systems so that it can be used as a hub of the Van Hoekelen Greenhouses products that are grown in Pennsylvania.
