Prospiant + Ebert’s Greenhouse Village

Ebert’s Greenhouse Village in Ixonia, WI, has partnered with Prospiant on two projects aimed at improving the customer experience and boosting retail sales.

The first, known as the “Fieldhouse” features three bays totaling 10,000 square feet with a 14-foot gutter height. It includes vertical vents on the east and west sides, along with atrium roof vents, and a Svensonn thermal cloth system, all managed through Wadsworth Control Systems’ EnviroSTEP controllers. In addition to housing plants, the space doubles as a venue for container planting classes.

Following the Fieldhouse’s success, Ebert’s owner Mark Ebert set his sights on a second structure to ease congestion during peak traffic days. The result was the “Merc,” a two-bay building totaling 6,600 square feet — one bay slightly longer than the other. Designed with column eliminators to maximize open space between posts, the Merc now houses additional cash registers and Ebert’s growing houseplant department.

“In the next two to four years, the store that was built in the mid-1990s will be renovated to make room for more selling space, larger bathrooms, and better storage space,” says Jason Wenninger, Head Grower at Ebert’s. “Since that project will be extensive and take time to complete, the Merc will serve as our temporary checkout area during construction.”

Tidal Roots, a destination garden center in Hebron, MD, recently upgraded its greenhouse control system with help from Wadsworth Control Systems.

The collaboration began when owner John Tilghman visited the Prospiant booth at Cultivate’23 and demoed Wadsworth’s controls to find a solution compatible with his greenhouses and BioTherm’s hot water heating system. Living 45 minutes away from the site, Tilghman prioritized a system with cloud capabilities. Wadsworth’s seed control system was selected to manage three zones, hot water floor heat, roof and side vents, and an overhead shade and heat retention curtain — all with future capacity for lighting, irrigation, or CO integration.

“Scott Thompson and Ben Goedde at Prospiant pulled together all the vendors to make the project happen, including jumping through a lot of hoops with very difficult local inspectors,” says Amanda Debevc, Sales/Marketing Manager at Wadsworth.

Pleasant View Gardens — a leading young plant propagator — is currently conducting a trial with Sollum Technologies’ dynamic LED grow lights to evaluate their impact on plant quality, growth efficiency, and energy savings. By using real-time spectrum control and custom light recipes, the goal is to optimize propagation conditions and improve uniformity. Early results have been promising, showing strong potential to boost production efficiency while lowering operational costs.
