New Opportunities for North American Greenhouse Growers at GreenTech Americas

GreenTech AmericasAs of 2018, The Packer reported there are about 126,000 acres of protected agriculture in Mexico compared to just 325 acres in 2013. Greenhouse production accounted for 27% of that number, and shade houses make up 45%.

With the burgeoning growth of the protected horticulture segment in Mexico, GreenTech organizers RAI Amsterdam and Tarsus México felt it was the perfect platform for the launch of the new show, according to Mariska Dreschler, Horticulture Director of RAI Amsterdam, who says that since Mexico is such a big production area for North America and export into the U.S. and Canada, the industry there will benefit from learning about high-tech solutions for growers that boost productivity.

”GreenTech Americas is customized to meet the needs of regional growers, breeders, and suppliers. The show will enable a greater exchange of knowledge, experiences, and success stories of the horticultural industry from Mexico and its region,” Dreschler says. “We expect this Americas business platform is a strong tool for obtaining new insights in crop production, customized to the specific climate and crops.”

If you need an excuse to check out the show, here are five good reasons to consider attending GreenTech Americas.

Customized, Regional Focus: GreenTech Americas is tailor-made to address the needs of Mexican, Latin American, and North American growers. It will have a regional focus with an emphasis on technology for sustainable crop production.

“By putting the spotlights on the specific needs in the Americas, we expect to significantly contribute to a sustainable production of vegetables, fruits, and flowers through using the best and most suitable technology possible to optimize crop production while using less inputs, less water and less energy, and through sharing knowledge and innovations from horticulture experts,” Dreschler says.

Free Educational Programming: A robust, three-day conference program with presentations centered on two main themes ─ business and investments and crop optimization ─ is easily accessible to attendees. Both the conference and a GreenTech stage with more commercial focused presentations are situated conveniently on the exhibition floor.

Experts, Innovators, and Visionaries: Thought-leaders, well-versed in horticulture technology, will address the importance of sustainable production and natural crop protection. Growers attending can expect guidance on how to optimize their crops to realize more revenue per square foot with fewer resources. Presenters will also tackle questions such as how new technologies will impact the international horticulture market, how growers will benefit from new technology, what big data means for the horticulture sector, and more.

Networking Opportunities: In addition to rubbing shoulders with regional and international experts and innovators, attendees will have plenty of chances for peer-to-peer interactions where they can learn from each other and cultivate business connections.

Vegetables and Soft Fruits Focus: Attendees will have the chance to see the latest technology for vegetable and soft fruit production up close, as well as attend educational sessions geared toward solving production challenges in those areas. Dreschler says the show will also touch on some medicinal cannabis-related items, but it will be limitedbecause the crop is not legal in Mexico.

Other items GreenTech Americas will cover include:

  • Technologies for live climates – energy savings, water efficiency
  • Use of Artificial intelligence
  • Health issues: Growing clean food
  • Developments in the vertical farming industry
  • How to use big data to improve your product
