Waikiki is one of the latest introductions into the Royal Hawaiian collection, bred by Dr. John J. Cho at the University of Hawaii. This breakthrough breeding program has designed several unique multi-toned varieties with premium glossy foliage and exceptional plant habits.

“The All-America Selections Awards honor innovative breakthroughs in plant breeding that will excite consumers in the garden center and provide them with long-lasting plants for summer-long satisfaction,” says All-America Selections and National Garden Bureau Executive Director Diane Blazek. “Waikiki stunned our judges across North America this summer with a vivid multi-tonal display of green, cream, and pink foliage which will excite consumers and revolutionize tropical plant palettes.”

A panel of industry experts in trial garden sites across the U.S. and Canada selected Waikiki as a National Winner. To be eligible for an award, nominated varieties had to prove superior garden performance and excitement throughout North America.
