New Best Practices Guides Cover Cannabis Lighting and HVAC

Cannabis-Facility-feature resource innovation instituteThe Technology Advisory Council of the Resource Innovation Institute (RII) is putting the final touches on two new best practices guides for cannabis growers producing a crop in a controlled environment.

Members of the council are working with RII to develop guides covering LED Lighting for Cannabis Cultivation & Controlled Environment Agriculture, and on HVAC for Cannabis Cultivation & Controlled Environment Agriculture. The advice in the guides is designed to be relevant to cultivation of other crops grown in controlled environments. The guides will be released at MJBizCon Vegas’ Associations Day at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

“Cannabis cultivators are facing cost pressures that require them to operate their production facilities more efficiently,” says Derek Smith, Executive Director of RIIYet they don’t know who to trust. So we’ve assembled some of the most experienced voices in the industry to develop the first peer reviewed best practices in lighting and HVAC.

Smith points out that there has not been a lot of reliable information released on cannabis cultivation, and this is the first time that information on lighting and heating has been compiled into one document.

“Our goal was to bring together many different voices, some of them competitors, to work together to standardize terminology and develop metrics that can define efficient production and recommended day-to-day practices,” Smith says. None of that has been standardized in cannabis cultivation.

RII instituted its Technical Advisory Council in February 2017 to determine best practices for resource efficiency in cannabis cultivation. RII will be adding experts to upcoming working groups focused on water, waste, non-grid power, policy, and carbon sequestration. To be considered, contact RII through its website.
